Why shrink your jpegs and photos?

Shrinking your jpegs and photos will make them load faster. Large images take a long time to download from a web server and the longer someone waits, the more likely they are to move onto another website or images.

How does it work?

Jpeg compression works by using mathematical formulas to break the image into smaller grids and changing the slightly different pixel information within the grid so that fewer individual pixel data is stored. Fewer pixel changes means less information, which means smaller files. The type of compression is called a lossy compression, which means information is lost within the compression. Lossy compression sounds scary, but depending on the image and the amount of compression, it may not be noticeable that any changes have been made.
